Janet McIntosh has presented her academic work at numerous universities, conferences, and public venues.

Professor McIntosh has been invited to lecture about her research in departments of Anthropology, Linguistics, African Studies, and related disciplines at leading institutions including Cambridge University, University College London, St. Andrews University, University of Helsinki, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Dartmouth, Stanford, NYU, UCLA, University of San Diego, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, CUNY Graduate Center, Boston University, Boston College, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, Rutgers University, University of Arizona, Virginia Tech, and Tulane University.

McIntosh has also enjoyed speaking to non-academic audiences in various capacities—most recently, in collaboration with military veterans—in venues such as the Center for Brooklyn History, the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, the Salem Athenaeum, the Marblehead Literary Festival, A.P.E. Gallery in Northampton, and the New York Academy of Sciences.

Beyond her teaching at Brandeis, she has participated in classroom discussions of her writings at institutions such as Bryn Mawr, Mount Holyoke, the New School, University of Michigan, University of Chicago, Harvard University, Dartmouth, Virginia Tech, University of Arizona, Tulane, William and Mary, and University of Colorado Boulder.
